About Us
The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution is a historical, educational, and patriotic "lineage" society comprised of male descendants of Patriots who supported the cause of American Independence during the years 1774-1783. We seek through service to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, an appreciation for patriotism, respect for our national symbols, and recognition of the value of American citizenship. We embody the motto of the United States e pluribus unum (from many, one nation and one people) as adopted in 1782 during the Revolution by the US Congress.
Our chapter members deliver youth and community award programs, veteran support and recognition programs, uniformed color guards at ceremonies and memorial events, costumed public speaking on the American Revolution, identification and ceremonial marking of American Revolution-era Patriot graves, and genealogical research and databasing of Patriot ancestor information and histories. Our chapter also supports the activities of the Joel Lane Museum House in Raleigh and the Joel Lane Chapter of the Children of the American Revolution. The Raleigh Chapter is part of the North Carolina Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and our programming covers the North Carolina counties of Wake, Johnston, Granville, Franklin, Nash, and Wilson, though we welcome members living anywhere. Our chapter was chartered on April 27, 1928 and is the largest chapter in the state with over 200 members. Join us!
