The Joel Lane Museum House is the oldest extant home in Wake County. Built by enslaved laborers in 1769, this home was once called “the best house for 100 miles,” and it hosted a number of significant Revolutionary meetings. From the first meetings of the Wake County Court to Committee of Safety strategy sessions during the Revolutionary War, the hall of Joel Lane’s home was “The Room Where it Happened.” The Raleigh Chapter supports the museum through fundraising activities.
