Silver outstanding citizen award

The SAR Silver Good Citizenship Medal recognizes outstanding and unusual patriotic achievement and service to the local community. The medal is presented to persons of prominence in the areas of government (including military service), religion, education, business and other professions, and other fields of endeavor. 

In 2022, the Raleigh Chapter presented the award to John Turner, executive director and founder of the Veterans Life Center.  The Veterans Life Center is a residential program designed to prevent veterans from experiencing homelessness, incarceration, suicide, and premature death. It helps 21st century veterans experiencing difficulties reintegrating into civilian life. Chapter President Richard A. Peña presented Mr. Turner, himself a veteran, with the SAR Silver Good Citizen Award for his tireless work helping 21st-Century veterans at risk become self-reliant.
