The Color Guard of the Raleigh Chapter promotes the memory of our patriot ancestors’ service with their presence in period uniform. The Color Guard also sets an example for others by public demonstration of respect for the dignity and importance of our flags and the ideals they represent. Our chapter Color guard participates in public and private ceremonies indoors and out including parades, dedications, battlefield memorial services, and patriot grave marking ceremonies. We troop the colors annually by invitation at the naturalization of new U.S. citizens in downtown Raleigh every year on the 4th of July.
Raleigh Color Guard members have the opportunity to train in the discharge of muzzle-loading muskets to National Rifle Association standards.
Our Chapter Color Guard members are part of the North Carolina Society of the SAR Color Guard made up of men from several chapters. Members assemble at selected events across the state just like the Minutemen of the American Revolution to parade in larger formations. The North Carolina Society also publishes the SAR Colorguardsman, an e-magazine for Color Guard members to support these activities.
